"A peek into Somany Impresa Group’s Technology revolution with Anjaiah Surgi, CIO"
Over the years, Somany Impresa Group has diversified its businesses significantly. Through many successful evolutions, the Group has understood the advantage that comes with implementing technologies that seamlessly ensure the flow of information across businesses, functional levels, as well as operations to sustain momentum and competitiveness.
Anjaiah Surgi, Chief Information Officer, Somany Impresa Group has had a front row seat during the mega tech revolution that happened during the Covid pandemic and has played major role in steering the IT vertical in a direction that has supported the Group’s growth and metamorphosis.
“Given our diversified businesses, each sector operates with its own distinct strategy and objectives. Additionally, businesses led by CEOs have their own priorities. Since they oversee independent teams and channels tailored to their specific markets and goals, it adds further complexity in not only deploying technology solutions but also in driving change. On the other side, the same structure also allows for focused efforts and agility within each sector, enabling us to effectively navigate diverse industries and pursue growth opportunities autonomously. Our focus remains on ensuring scalability and flexibility in all implementations,” says Anjaiah.

Anjaiah and his team have been steering the adoption of new technologies that enhance the competitiveness and market positioning of Somany Impresa Group companies and brands.
“Our core theme is to digitize, automate and implement best practices across the Group. Analytics is another area where we have evolved greatly. IT has been spearheading the digital transformation by adopting some of the great technology solutions such as LC/NC Platform, RPA, IIoT, and AI/ML/NLP based technologies for computer vision & chatbot, big data / analytics and many SaaS based enterprise solutions coupled with SAP S/4HANA.”
“Right from suppliers, transporters, distributors, dealers, influencers, employees, sales teams, plant engineers, plant supervisors, QA/QC inspectors, recruiters and for many stakeholders in the ecosystem, till security personnel, we have self-service and business enabled solutions that ensure respective stakeholders are up-to-speed” shares Anjaiah. “Officers in the field have real-time access to information. It ensures, when they visit or interact, they give out facts that are handy which make conversations more meaningful and are driving better relationships and thus leading to sales and growth”.
“He also emphasized how the strategic implementation of technology has yielded significant benefits at both the plant and product level”.
“Digitisation in plants, for engineering and maintenance helps them receive right alerts and notifications promptly and record the causes of failure there itself. Further, it aids in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and taking the right corrective or preventive measures. The Product Lifecycle Management solution tracks, end to end, concept to market, with the right collaboration from all the involved stakeholders”.
Anjaiah acknowledges that implementing new technologies comes with inherent challenges, particularly when navigating change management across different departments. Without proper execution, even the most promising solution can become a burden
“Transformation of an idea into a technological solution is crucial. The team or individual developing the solution may not fully grasp the perspective of the end user, and the business user might not be able to precisely articulate what he or she wants. Recognizing this gap and effectively bridging it is essential as understanding can not only impede the overall delivery of the solution but also the adoption,” says Anjaiah.
Anjaiah describes the evolution of technology is exponential and beyond imagination. For him and his team to ensure the Group stays abreast of new and emerging technologies, they follow a collaborative approach that brings the best of the ecosystem to the Group.
“We partner and collaborate with start-ups. We’ve had some interesting sessions with T-Hub in Hyderabad,” says Anjaiah.
He also shares with pride how fresh talent is making a major difference.
During his tenure at Somany Impresa Group, the transition to a truly digital organisation during the lockdown is Anjaiah’s most memorable experience, among others.
“During the lock-down, we could rewrite and create some interesting SOPs by leveraging the team’s expertise” shares Anjaiah. “This has allowed people to deliver remotely with high productivity.”
Anjaiah’s way of unwinding is as low tech as his life is high tech. He enjoys unwinding by listening to classical music and watching Telugu cinema. A family man at heart, all this pales in front of his favourite pastime, which is to spending time with his two daughters, involving conversations and catch-up sessions at the dining table. He adds – “When you enjoy what you’re doing, you don’t feel like it is stressful. It becomes a habit and a part of you,” shares Anjaiah with a smile.
